More than just entertaining, films carry an immense amount of power. They can open our minds and deepen our understanding about various cultures and issues. That’s why films are such an effective tool for social change.
In 2022, we hosted a film screening and discussion in collaboration with Freedom Film Network (FFN). Through this screening, we hoped to excite interest among local youth and filmmakers on the power of film as an impactful social tool for change.
Two films were showcased; Grey Scale and Baliu Kano Kai.
Your story matters
Joining the post-film screening for a discussion, were two invited panellists, Dennis Tan (from the Sarawak Gerontology & Geriatrics Society) and Gebril Atong (SCRIPS).
Dennis shared his experience being an elderly person in Kuching while Gebril shared his journey working to protect his indigenous culture and customary land in Punan Ba, along the Balui River.
Their stories were not the only ones we heard during the post-screening discussions. We also invited participants to share their thoughts and views after watching the films.
In our next film screening, we hope to see new faces and hear new experiences. Till the next film screening 😀
